The Underling by Ian McKercher published at GSPH

Ian McKercher announces the release of his novel "The Underling". Description: "Ottawa, Canada, 1934. Seventeen-year old Frances McFadden is plucked from the tedium of school routine and the control of a domineering mother to work for the new Bank of Canada. Like many hard-working women of her generation, she comes to wield tremendous power without any of the trappings of authority. Many noble acts, some skinny-dipping. In late August 1939, Frances is sent on a secret mission to Warsaw, where the Polish gold reserves tempt a rapacious neighbour". As a special treat, Ian will read from the novel at the February 23rd reading night.

OIW Member JC Sulzenko Posts Video on YouTube

OIW Member JC Sulzenko Posts Video on YouTube A new video designed to help children and families talk about Alzheimer’s disease premiered on YouTube this week at http://youtu.be/WsaHth8bm0s With some 500,000 Canadians over 65 already affected by such an illness, many families need new skills to support someone living with it and each other. Since that number will grow significantly in coming years, more and more families will face such challenges. The video, released in conjunction with Alzheimer’s awareness month, demonstrates how the play What My Grandma Means to Say,’ written by JC Sulzenko of Ottawa, can be performed for elementary school-aged children and their families by senior students or community theatre groups.
